This morning I was looking at CNN.com and there was a news story about a radio host who claimed that children who have Autism (person first language BTW) are simply trying to get attention or have poor parents... What the heck is he talking about!!!
People who do not understand things should not presume to discuss them! People who have Autism are not diseased, however they do not live a life like everyone else. Luke Jackson says that Autism is "a more extreme form of real-life." As a person who works with people who have Autism I can attest to the fact that it is not poor parenting and not a lack of control, if anything it is that our world is not made for their physiology.
Okay, I will get off my soap box now! Thanks for listening.

Preach it girl!! After working with Ethan, I totally hear you! Not that I didn't think that before since I've grown up around my sister, but still... and way to use people first language! Don't know many other people who know about that. :-) Can't wait for Friday! Hopefully, I'll have a gift for you then... but it might be a bit delayed... we shall see how the mail fairies do. :-)
My mom sent me this a while back. VERY powerful, check it out!

This link is to a YouTube video by a woman with Autism. It is amazing and
her translation is so powerful.
Just one of her profound statements:
"Only when the many shapes of personhood are recognized will justice and
human rights be possible." ~ Amanda M. Baggs
Hi Sara. I've recently stumbled upon the possible link between autism and gluten intolerance. Do you think there's a connection?
Jaime,
Many people have claimed that gluten free diets can help reduce some of the major behavioral effects of autism. I know that there are several books by individuals who have attempted and been helped by Gluten free and Casein Free diets. There is a book by Luke Jackson called "A User Guide to the Gf/Cf diet: For Autism, Asperger, and AD/HD". Hope this helps.
